There is plenty of time left in the season for me to turn around my NFL fund.  Remember that the goal of betting is not to make money, the goal is to be right.  When you are right, the money will come.

I just returned from a celebration.  A night of laughter and pride.  I attended a high school football game in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  The game was a big deal; at least for the people I spent time with.  The team I was hanging out with won, so I had the honor of being in attendance at a coaches’ post game celebratory gathering.  It was good times!

Tony Romo  Does the new Texas Stadium they’re building have a retractable roof on it? They might want to consider it. Otherwise a whole lot of construction work might get washed away with the deluge that is pounding Dallas this week.

I am going to do my best to curb my enthusiasm, and I am not one to pat myself on the back too much, but I did go 10-4 this past weekend in the NFL.  I am now over .500 for the year, and must maintain The Dean’s Principles to keep it rolling in Week 7.

Adrian Peterson

The NFC North race just got a whole lot tighter. The Minnesota Vikings won a squeaker over the woeful Detroit Lions 12-10 on a Ryan Longwell field goal in the waning seconds. This puts Minnesota at 3-3 and tied for first with the Chicago Bears who lost a 22-20 heartbreaker to the Atlanta Falcons. The Green Bay Packers improved their record to 3-3 by besting the Seattle Seahawks 27-17 at Seattle’s Qwest Field.

Week Seven will paint a clearer picture of divisional leaders. The Vikings travel to Soldier Field to take on the Bears while Green Bay takes on Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field. Don’t go giving the Colts a win just yet. The Colts are mainly a passing team - well who can blame them with Peyton taking snaps? If the wind is whipping in Green Bay that afternoon, there could be a lot of knuckeballs floating around the tundra, putting extra emphasis on the ground game. Plus the Colts didn’t look any too impressive in the first three quarters when they edged the Vikings 18-15 in Week Two.

The Minnesota-Chicago clash will probably be a low scoring affair.  Adrian Peterson is due for a big game and the Minnesota front four will shut down the Bears’ Matt Forte. On the Bears side of the ledger, Kyle Orton is gonna have a lot of fun riddling the Vikes secondary. Brian Urlacher and Adewale Ogunleye will spearhead a charged up defense that will be determined to shut off the Minnesota running game, in other words Peterson. Neither team will blow out the opposition and this one could well be decided on sheer determination.

Through 5 weeks the NFL has been knocking the snot of me.  Some of it is my fault, actually all of it is my fault, but I am not able to bear the whole burden right now.  I need to shovel some of the responsibility elsewhere.  The outcome as I sit here today is that I am being challenged to stay the course.

New Orleans Saints

What a terrific set-up. Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints, primarily believed to be an NFL disappointment, believed to be close to bringing NCAA sanctions on a USC football program because he reportedly took under-the-table payments, has a break-out performance on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings. Who could see that one coming?
